SERVING RECOMMENDATIONS

1) What is the best temperature to serve my cakes?
Chocolate and White (w/chocolate orange frosting) cakes:
Serve your Santé Gourmet® chocolate or white cakes at room temperature for a more intense chocolate flavor. As a general rule, chocolate is best stored at temperatures between 54°F and 68°F (12°C and 20°C) in a dark area or unexposed to direct light. If your room temperature is warm, as in summer, store the cake in the refrigerator at all times and then take it out about 30 minutes to one hour before serving to allow it to warm up a bit. If you prefer your chocolate cake served warm and fudgey, heat a piece in the microwave in a microwaveable dish for 20-30 seconds on a low heat setting. The single portion containers may be placed in the microwave directly after removing the plastic film. Make sure any uneaten cake is kept in an air-tight container to avoid unnecessary moisture loss.

Carrot and Lemon cakes: Although your carrot or lemon cake must be refrigerated, it can be served at room temperature by taking it out about 30 minutes to one hour prior to serving. You may want to heat up the carrot cake in the microwave on a low setting in a microwaveable dish for a molten, cream cheese frosting. Once again, the single portion containers may be placed in the microwave after removing the plastic film. Store any uneaten cake in a refrigerated, tightly-sealed container for optimal freshness.

2) What are the recommended serving sizes for cakes?
The FDA reference size for cakes is 80g, or 2.8 ounces. Santé Gourmet individual portions are based on this standard. Six-inch cakes serve 8 people, and quarter sheet trays serve up to 16 people.

Please note that single-serving sizes purchased at many bakeries, restaurants and hotels are often two times or even up to four times this weight! However, the Nutrition Facts (which are often not even available at these establishments) are typically based on the FDA reference serving size of 80g, so you must multiply the nutritional data by 2 or 4 times. Bottom line: To live healthier, learn to enjoy smaller portions of high-quality foods.
