NET CARBS 1) What are net carbs and how are they calculated? Net carbohydrate typically refers to the amount of carbohydrate in a food serving that is readily digestible. There is currently no FDA policy on carbohydrate claims, but most companies, including Santé Gourmet®, define net carbohydrate to be equivalent to Total Carbohydrate minus sugar alcohol and fiber. This is because sugar alcohols and dietary fiber are not readily digestible and have a minimal or zero impact on blood sugar levels. 2) How are net carbs significant to my diet? Net carbohydrate may be significant to your diet if you happen to be following a low-carb diet. However, one must keep in mind that all human bodies do not possess the same metabolic rate. People with diabetes, for example, must see how a new product impacts blood sugar levels through diligent glucose monitoring. 3) Are Santé Gourmet cakes low carb? Although there are many products today claiming to be low in carbohydrate, there is currently no FDA definition for low carb. However, our products contain about 2/3 less carbohydrate than that of regular cakes. |
